Travelling to your hotel before you go to the Tech Gate Vienna:

at the Wiener Linien Route planner / Timetable information http://efa.vor.at/wvb/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en.
All you need to do is typing in the postal address or name of the nearest
stop/station of the place of our departure and destination plus your preferred
day/night travel time.
Buy your tickets as described above.
*
VIC = Vienna International Centre
**
Buying a train ticket from a touch screen ticket machine on the platform of
the OeBB (Austrian Federal Railways) station or at Wien Meidling in the station lobby:
Chose your preferred language from German, English, French, Italian, Hungarian,
Czech, Croatian and Slovene. In case you have chosen German: touch "VOR-Einzelfahrkarte
mit Zonenwahl" (= VOR single ticket for one or more than one zone). You
find it in the first (left) column of options. If you depart from the airport
you need to buy a ticket for 2 zones (it will cost you EUR 3.60). If you depart
from "Suedtiroler Platz" it's just 1 zone for EUR 1.80). Don't forget
to finally touch the green button "OK Fahrkarte kaufen" / "OK
Buy Ticket" (located bottom right). Only then you may insert money (Euros/Cents)
or have the price debited to your credit card.
Stamp the delivered ticket by inserting it into a slot of an orange box-like
"Entwerter" (= ticket cancelling device) nearby. The stamped ticket
must be presented to conductors and inspectors upon request. It entitles you
to travel to your destination (to and within zone 100 = the central area of
the VOR public transport system, which is most of Vienna) irrespective of
how often you have to change lines, be they S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram or bus.
***
Buying a ticket for "Wiener Linien" (Vienna Transport lines) from
a touch screen ticket machine:
Upon arrival at Westbahnhof or Wien Meidling you may buy an "Einzelfahrschein"
(= single ticket) from either a tobacconist at the station or a ticket vending machine. Price EUR 1.80.
You need to have the ticket stamped by inserting it into the yellow marked
slot of a blue box-like "Entwerter" (= "ticket cancelling device"),
mounted at poles positioned at the intersection between the public space and
the station territory. The stamped ticket must be presented to inspectors
upon request.
The ticket entitles you to travel to your destination (within zone 100 = the
central area of the VOR public transport system, which is most of Vienna)
irrespective of how often you have to change lines, be they U-Bahn, tram or
bus. Travelling from Westbahnhof to Tech Gate Vienna implies one change only
and no change at all if you travel to Tech Gate Vienna from Suedbahnhof.
Instead of buying an "Einzelfahrschein" for every trip you may consider
buying a "Streifenkarte" (= 4-strip ticket for 4 journeys in the
central zone 100 or two journeys in two zones, e.g. the central zone 100 and
one of the surrounding zones) for EUR 7.20. If you want to combine unlimited
travel within zone 100, valid 72 hours, with hundreds of discounts offered
by museums, theatres, shops etc. you may opt for a "Vienna Card"
for EUR 18.50.
Please note: all tickets bought in advance (this also applies to the strip(s)
of a "Streifenkarte") must be stamped by an "Entwerter"
- as explained above. If you board a tram or a bus you find an "Entwerter"
inside the vehicle.
"Vienna Card": At the Westbahnhof it is available at the "Vorverkauf"
(= advance sales counter) of the Wiener Linien, located in the basement of
the station. However, you may order the "Vienna Card" by phone from
abroad well ahead of your departure: Just call +43 1 7984400-148 and have
your credit card ready.
For more information on the "Vienna Card": http://www.wien.info/article.asp?IDArticle=9400.
If you are interested in other kinds of tickets (e.g. the Vienna Shopping
Ticket, Vienna Weekly ticket, or 24 or 48 or 72 hour ticket) you are advised
to look up detailed information provided at http://www.wienerlinien.at/wl/ep/channelView.do?channelId=-17256&displayPage=&pageTypeId=10220
and to consider buying your tickets in advance from the Wiener Linien Online
ticket shop: http://shop.wienerlinien.at/index.php/product/1/show/0/0/0.
